The U-S Senate is expected to begin its work on language for a final version of a new Farm Bill later this week.
Minnesota Farm Bureau President Dan Glessing of Waverly says after years of encouragement from multiple farm groups across the country, it appears the wheels are finally in motion…
“Timing isn’t ideal, I mean, they’re all going on August recess here after that, so. It would be nice if when they come back it’s ready to go and all teed-up so to speak. But, at the end of the day, at least there’s some progress.”
Glessing says U-S farmers and ranchers have been navigating a lot of change in the years since the enactment of the last Farm Bill…
“Things have changed a lot when you think about the last Farm Bill, we’ve been doing continuing resolutions. When the last Farm Bill was passed, we hadn’t gone through COVID yet, so to put it in perspective, that’s been a long time ago. So hopefully when senators get back for August break, they hear from their farmers and ranchers and those involved in agriculture that it’s time, and it’s really something that needed to continue the certainty that we need as farmers to go forward and try to be successful.”
