School Supply Receipts Could Turn Into Important Tax Deductions

Minnesota families may be able to turn some back-to-school purchases into tax savings through the state’s K-12 Education Credit or Subtraction.

State Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart says a wide range of common school supplies can qualify…

When you’re buying these supplies, these school educational supplies like paper, pens, notebooks, textbooks, you name it. If it’s dealing with classroom expenses, keep track of the receipt.”

Marquart says families with a wide range of school-aged children may benefit…

It’s from kindergarten through 12th grade, at a public school, a private school, or homeschool. So any students in any of those schools, kindergarten through 12th grade, any classroom supplies can be used for this tax benefit.”

Marquart says thousands of Minnesota families are already taking advantage of state tax breaks for education expenses. More information can be found on the Department of Revenue’s website.
