The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reports that an investigation is continuing into the death of a Monticello man Thursday morning.
Authorities say just before 7:30 AM, a 9-1-1 call was received by the department indicating that a 57-year-old male was found dead inside his home in the 800 block of 9127 State Highway 25 Northeast in Monticello.
Deputies arrived on the scene moments later, finding the man deceased with an apparent stab wound. Information was quickly gathered and a person of interest was identified. Officials say the information indicated the possibility that the suspect could have been headed to another home in Cass County, with the potential of harming another individual.
Law enforcement implemented Flock Safety automated license plate cameras, and the person of interest was quickly located and taken into custody about 10 miles away from the Cass County residence in question. Officials say a shotgun was found in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
The individual at the Cass County residence was located unharmed.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
