A reminder to motorists that Minnesota’s new school bus safety law is in effect.
The old law caused confusion on whether drivers should stop for buses displaying flashing lights or only when the stop arm on the side of the bus was extended.
Minnesota Senator Ann Johnson Stewart, who represents Senate District 45 which includes much of the west metro area, authored the change in the law’s language…
“Drivers now don’t have to think oh is it when the stop sign is out. What is it? Now it is just simply this: if there’s red lights flashing, then stop your car. And that’s the law.”
The new law was heavily supported in both chambers and by both sides, and was actually the first bill passed during the last legislative session.
