Minnesota Cold Weather Rule Takes Effect

Minnesota’s Cold Weather Rule is now in effect.

Under the rule, residential customers are protected from service disconnection from October 1st through April 30th if the disconnection would affect the customer’s primary heating source. Customers must immediately contact their utility and set up a payment plan if they receive a disconnection notice.

Xcel Energy official Randy Cantu encourages customers who may be struggling to contact the company to work out a payment plan if they are faced with a disconnection.

Numerous local community energy assistance programs are also available. Here in Wright County, the Wright County Community Action Agency is a source for information on a number of energy-related programs. The phone number for the Maple Lake office is (320) 963-6500.
