USDA Offering Emergency Loans for Farmers Due to Drought Conditions

The United States Department of Agriculture has issued a drought-related natural disaster designation for 12 Minnesota counties, including Wright County.

The USDA has listed Cook, Hennepin, Lake and Ramsey counties as the four primary counties eligible. Eight other counties – Anoka, Carver, Dakota, St. Louis, Scott, Sherburne, Washington, and Wright counties are listed as “Contiguous Counties” bordering the primary counties.

This Secretarial Natural Disaster Designation allows the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or to refinance certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.
