Fire Prevention Week – Electronic Charging Cords Matter! (Part 1)

This is Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s message focuses on something most of us do every day, charge electronic devices.

While it has gotten to be a routine part of each day, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office says most of us don’t think much about the potential fire hazards.

State Fire Marshal Jon Krier warns that the cheapest charging cord is frequently not the safest choice…

“The best recommendation and what we want everyone to use is to use the charging cord that came with the device. If you lose that device, it’s best to go back to the manufacturer through their website, through a direct retailer, and purchase a replacement cord that is from that manufacturer.”

Krier says the growing number of electronic devices in our homes are among the factors increasing fire risk, making fire prevention and preparedness especially important.
