Clarifying an earlier story on KRWC Radio, crews pulled a mini-van out of Buffalo Lake on Sunday, after it had crashed through the ice in early January.

You may remember that on January 5th, a mini-van went through the ice on the north side of Buffalo Lake.

Later information from Buffalo Fire Chief John Harnois indicated that the vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Caravan broke through the ice shortly after 8 PM that evening, and his department was notified at 8:17 PM.

At that time, Chief Harnois said six rescuers with ice suits and other special rescue gear helped two people to safety. Other than being extremely cold and wet, no other injuries were reported to the occupants of the vehicle, or emergency personnel.

Crews were on the ice Sunday in the early afternoon pulling the vehicle out of the water, and eventually back on to dry ground.

Safety officials stress that even in a winter with a lot of ice in most places, that “no ice is ever 100% safe.”
