Most people would agree that this winter has seen a lot of extremes. We’ve seen plenty of cold temperatures, but plenty of well above normal temps as well. Overall, it means that the winter as a whole has been pretty average.
Pete Boulay with the State Climatology Office says we had waves of winter weather, mostly in December, January, and February…
“Throw the three months together, the statewide preliminary average for winter is half-a-degree above normal and overall about a half inch below normal for precipitation. So, it wasn’t consistent, not everybody got the big storms.”
Boulay says we had 29 Alberta clippers and those systems usually only produce an inch or two.
Though Mother Nature rarely follows any rule book, the calendar tells us that officially, spring arrives on March 20th.
