If you’re nibbling on Thanksgiving leftovers today, or maybe having a second round of the full dinner, pet experts remind us to be careful with sharing those foods with pets.
Officials say dogs can have a small amount of Thanksgiving turkey but there are many foods we should avoid giving to our pets.
The Animal Humane Society’s Sarah Bhimani says for instance, chocolate is poisonous for both cats and dogs. Many other typical holiday meal items and ingredients can be a problem for companion animals…
“Garlic, onions, chives, in small amounts that can irritate our pet’s stomach, in large amounts it can be toxic. Grapes and raisins can cause kidney damage. Nuts can be a problem for our pets as well as salty snacks.”
She says on the other hand, raw pumpkin or sweet potatoes without marshmallows are a treat for pets.
