Birth Defects Awareness Month Observed in Minnesota in January

It’s Birth Defects Awareness Month in Minnesota, calling attention to the nearly 2,000 afflicted babies born each year in the state.

For 2025, Jennifer Heath with the Department of Health (MDH) says they’re joining the National Birth Defects Prevention Network to highlight the “Every Journey Matters” campaign…

Every Journey Matters focuses on how achieving (the) best health outcomes looks different for each person born with a birth defect.”

A birth defect develops in babies before birth, can affect any part of the body, and sometimes causes lifelong health problems.

Heath says this campaign helps raise awareness and connect those affected to local and community support.
