The Wright County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed April 21st through the 25th as National Work Zone Awareness Week in Wright County.
National Work Zone Awareness Week is an annual spring campaign held at the start of the roadway construction season to encourage safe driving through work zones. The key takeaways from the week are to get drivers to use extra caution in work zones, raise public awareness for work zones, get drivers to slow to posted speed limits and eliminate distractions while driving.
The theme of this year’s campaign is “Respect the zone so we all get home.”
In 2022, 891 people died in work zones, including 742 drivers and their passengers.
Officials say while no one enjoys dealing with the slowdowns caused by road construction, slowing down is a small price to pay when it comes to the health and safety of construction workers and those driving through work zones.
