Buffalo Boys Basketball to Host Coaches vs. Cancer Night

The Buffalo Boys Basketball team will be hosting Coaches vs. Cancer night on Friday, February 21st at Buffalo High School.

This year’s event will support Buffalo community member and Bison Basketball fan Frank Etter, and Buffalo High School alum and former basketball player Calleigh (Brown) Kennedy.

Frank was diagnosed with lymphoma back in November 2019, and after eight rounds of chemotherapy, was in remission by February 2020.  However, the cancer returned in April 2024 and had progressed to lymphoma leukemia.  Frank has been a big supporter of both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, and as Buffalo Boys Basketball Coach Josh Ortmann recounts, “I don’t remember the last time I haven’t seen Frank regularly at Bison Basketball games, both boys and girls.”

Calleigh (Brown) Kennedy was a 2007 graduate of Buffalo High School and was a student athlete.  She played on the Buffalo girls basketball team.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2024 and started chemotherapy in January of this year.  She plans on having sixteen rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy, one month of radiation, and then five years of medication.  Ortmann stated that Calleigh “would’ve definitely fit the definition of proud, with just who she is, what she represents, her bubbly personality, and her positive outlook on life.”

You can show your support by attending the event, purchasing a Coaches vs. Cancer T-shirt, by bidding on silent auction items, or by donating to the cause.  Silent auction bidding opens February 20th at 10 AM.  You can access the auction online at www.bidpartner.net/coachesvscancer
