The Buffalo City Council held an emergency meeting Monday to ratify an emergency slow – no wake zone on both Buffalo Lake, and Lake Pulaski.
Officials say that due to heavy rains throughout the month of June, and the intense rain from the weekend, lake levels are such that shoreline erosion and threats to property and public safety are present on both lakes.
New slow – no wake zones will be imposed on all motorized watercraft to limit their operation to a maximum of 5 miles per hour within 600 feet of any shoreline on Buffalo Lake and Lake Pulaski.
The new regulation will be in effect until levels drop, or for 30 days. The city council can opt to end the slow – no wake zone restrictions earlier than 30 days, or can take action to extend the rule beyond 30 days with further approval by the council, and with approval by the Commissioner of the Minnesota DNR.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office will be responsible for the enforcement of the declaration.
