April is safe digging month and CenterPoint Energy is reminding Minnesotans that it’s important to call 811 before you do any digging in your yard this spring and summer.
CenterPoint Spokesperson Joshua Solis says if a natural gas leak does occur, act fast…
“Leave the area immediately on foot. Don’t attempt to restart or move powered equipment. Go to a safe location, then call 911. Remain in that safe area until directed by emergency personnel to do otherwise and don’t try to repair a natural gas leak. Leave all repairs to a trained technician.”
Solis says in addition to calling 811, make adjustments if your project is too close to a utility line and make sure any contractors have also called 811.
