2nd District Congresswoman Angie Craig has announced her candidacy for the U-S Senate in Minnesota.
Craig made it official on Tuesday that she is forgoing a run for a 5th term in the U-S House, for a chance to get the DFL nomination to run for the U-S Senate seat being vacated by Senator Tina Smith.
It means the DFL field of candidates continues to increase. Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and former State Senator Melisa Lopez Franzen have previously announced their intent to seek the nomination from their democratic peers to take a run at the U-S Senate.
Republicans Royce White, and Adam Schwarze have already announced that they are active candidates for the GOP nomination.
A nominating convention could be held in May or June of 2026, but if multiple candidates decide to stay in the race regardless of a nominating convention outcome, a primary could be held next August prior to the November 2026 general election.
