The Dassel-Cokato School District is warning community residents about an email scam that has been circulating in that area in recent days.
A Facebook post this week says the district became aware of a false email address that closely resembles official school district communication from a staff member. The fraudulent email encourages community members to purchase gift cards from a local business, claiming it will benefit a school initiative.
The school district says it will never ask for gift card donations via email.
Anyone who receives such a request is advised not to respond or provide any personal information. D-C School District officials say they have been in contact with local law enforcement.
Anyone who believes that they have been a victim of this scam is asked to contact their local Sheriff’s Office to file a report.
