One local teen died, while another was critically injured in a single-vehicle traffic crash in the overnight hours Saturday night into early Sunday morning in neighboring Meeker County.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office reports that just after 3 AM Sunday, the department received a report of a vehicle crash at the intersection of Meeker County Road 6 and 746th Avenue, about 2 miles west of Cokato in Collinwood Township.
Authorities say the vehicle was westbound on County Road 6 when it went out of control, and ran off the roadway. Officials say the passenger side of the vehicle struck a telephone pole.
Both occupants reportedly had to be extricated from the vehicle. Dead at the scene of the crash was the passenger, 19-year-old Nolan Henke of Dassel. The driver, 19-year-old Elijah Miller of Cokato was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with possible life-threatening injuries.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Dassel Fire and Rescue, Cokato Fire, Rescue and Ambulance, and a Lifelink III helicopter assisted the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation.
