Dairy producers have until Thursday to enroll in the federal Dairy Margin Coverage or DMC program.
Holly Johnson, County Executive Director of the Wright / Hennepin County Farm Service Agency office says the program could benefit a number of local dairy farmers…
“It is the safety net program that provides dairy producers support that can help offset both milk and feed price differences. But the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act that was passed back in last July re-authorized the dairy program for 2026 through 2031…so we didn’t get this in a Farm Bill, it’s a little different, it came under this act instead. So it is for the next six years.”
Johnson says there are various levels of improvements included under the new coverage…
“It increased…we have two different tiers of coverage depending on the size of your operation. But it increased our Tier 1 coverage from 5 million to 6 million pounds, so this is going to help out some of our mid-size to larger dairys just so they can have additional pounds covered at a more reasonable cost.”
The enrollment deadline is Thursday, February 26th. Contact the Wright / Hennepin County FSA office for complete details and enrollment at (763) 682-1982.
