Deputy Involved Shooting Tuesday Evening in Monticello

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office has released information regarding a deputy involved shooting incident Tuesday evening in Monticello.

In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 9 PM Tuesday, deputies responded to the 900 block of Golf Course Road in the City of Monticello.

A 9-1-1 caller reported that a male with what was described as a large knife was in the street yelling.

When deputies arrived, they encountered the adult male with a large knife walking on Golf Course Road. The man reportedly ignored commands to stop and drop the knife. Officials say the man began to advance on the deputies, and despite a Taser being used, the man did not stop. One of the responding deputies fired their weapon striking the man, who was then taken into custody, and first aid was administered.

The male was transported to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale for treatment, and is reportedly in stable condition. The identity of the man has not yet been released.

No residents of the area were injured, and the deputies involved in the incident were not physically injured. They will be placed on critical incident leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting. Deputies involved in the incident are reported to have been wearing activated body-worn cameras.

The Minnesota BCA will lead the follow-up investigation.
