Early December a Complete About-Face From Much of November

While much of the weather we had in November often looked and felt more like September, there’s no denying that the first part of December looks and feels like winter.

Pete Boulay with the State Climatology Office says spending a few minutes outdoors the last few days makes it hard to remember the mild weather we were having in late November…

“Two weeks ago it was in the 60s and 70 across the state. And then despite the cold finish we saw well below normal temperatures at the end, November still wound up being about one to four degrees above normal. So another month in a row of above normal temperatures.”

Boulay says the two snow events during the final week of November brought some badly needed moisture to Wright County and much of Minnesota…

“Because the ground was not frozen before that first storm. So the rain we got before that storm really soaked into the ground nicely. And we’ll take precipitation in any form in November because we were running a half an inch to a inch below normal.”

Boulay says with a pretty good blanket of snow on the ground, temperatures will have a more difficult time returning to normal or above normal.
