Minnesota state fairgoers can expect to see some of their favorite exhibits back at the DNR building at the State Fair this year.
DNR Fair Coordinator Amelia English says the always popular fishpond is making its return…
“People can see over 30 types of Minnesota fish swimming in our well fed lake this little pond. But is water that stays 55° no matter how hot it is and the fish circle while you can stand in some shade under some trees and just have a moment of nature. And the wildness of the fair.”
English says Minnesota’s wildlife is also well represented…
“There’s our wildlife wing, which has taxidermy so you can see animals up close that wouldn’t really survive well at the fair. Fish do great in the pond, but we’re not going to have a bear here for a variety of reasons, but you can see the taxidermy and learn a little bit more about the animals in nature.”
She says other favorites feature the vastness and wide range of land types that can be found in the state…
“We have a forestry exhibit to learn about the trees in Minnesota and a pretty big invasive species area, so you can talk to someone about that buckthorn in your life or learn about cleaning out your boat, which we care about a lot. We’ve got our canine officers showing that their canines can smell out game.”
More info on state fair exhibits and presentations can be found on the DNR’s website. The State Fair runs through Labor Day.
