Just three days into the filing window for the Special Election for Minnesota Senate District 29, five candidates have announced their intention to run for the open seat.
The Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office lists four Republican candidates as of Friday morning, August 1st.
The candidates include Rachel Davis, Michael Holmstrom Jr., Delano City Council member Jason Franzen, and current Wright County Commissioner Tina Diedrick.
Louis McNutt is the lone DFL candidate who has filed as of Friday.
The multiple Republican candidates assures that a Special Primary Election will need to be held on August 26th to narrow the field to one candidate.
The Minnesota Senate District 29 seat is open due to the recent, unexpected passing of State Senator Bruce Anderson of Buffalo. Senate District 29 includes much of Wright, as well as portions of Hennepin and Meeker Counties.
