A funeral Mass is scheduled for today (Monday) in Waverly for a longtime community member and civic volunteer.
Dale Lorentz passed away May 13th at the age of 84.
Dale grew up in the area, and earned a degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Dunwoody Institute. He was also a U-S Army veteran.
Dale and his wife, Agnes raised their children on their hobby farm in Woodland Township. He was active with many civic groups in the Waverly area. He was a charter member and Past President and Gambling Manager with the Waverly Lions. He also served with the Knights of Columbus as Grand Knight and Financial Secretary. Dale also volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the Waverly Boosters, the American Legion, Special Olympics, and was active with St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He also enjoyed working at the food and beer stands at Waverly Days and the church bazaar. He also helped parking cars at Winstock, and marched in many Memorial Day parades. Dale was recognized by the Minneapolis Aquatennial for his volunteer work and commitment to the community.
Dale Lorentz is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Agnes, his 12 children, and 16 – soon to be 17, grandchildren. He is also survived by several siblings and many relatives in the region.
