Funeral Services Today (Wednesday) for Longtime Area Pastor, Rev. Norman Hanan

Funeral services are scheduled for today (Wednesday) in Kimball for a longtime pastor from our area.

Rev. Norman Hanan passed away November 28th at the Annandale Care Center at the age of 85.

Norman was born and raised in Chicago, and graduated from Luther North High School in Chicago with the Class of 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education, and a Master of Arts in Education from what is now Concordia University in Chicago.

He served as a teacher and coach at the St. John’s Lutheran School in LaGrange, Illinois, and later at Luther High School North, and Luther South High School in Chicago. Norman and his wife, Mary, raised their family in the Chicago area.

In 1980, Norman enrolled at the Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He would serve his vicarage at Bethel Lutheran Church in Westmont, Illinois. He was ordained and installed at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Chicago, where he served for just under 5 years. He was then called to Concordia Lutheran Church in Fair Haven in 1987, and served there until his retirement in 2003.

Pastor Hanan was a volunteer at the State Communication Center for the Blind, reading and recording college textbooks. He also was a volunteer at the Annandale Food Shelf. Even in his retirement, Pastor Hanan continued to lead worship for pastors who were ill on on vacation. He served as a vacancy pastor at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Buffalo, and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silver Creek. He also served as a Visitation Pastor for St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buffalo.

Services for Rev. Norman Hanan are scheduled for today (Wednesday) at the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kimball. Memorials are preferred to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Annandale.
