Governor Tim Walz has proclaimed January as Birth Defects Awareness Month in Minnesota.
Department of Health (MDH) Supervisor Jennifer Heath says not all, but some birth defects can be prevented with certain health behaviors reducing the risk…
“Starting prenatal care early; by taking a multivitamin with at least 400 micrograms of folic acid; avoiding alcohol, cigarettes, vaping, marijuana, or other drugs or toxic exposure.”
Nearly 2,000 babies are affected by birth defects each year in Minnesota.
