MnDOT reminds motorists that a major construction project on Highway 12 through Howard Lake, Waverly and Montrose is now underway.

The $9.4 million dollar project got underway in Howard Lake early this week. There are two timelines for the Howard Lake portion of the project. This week, crews have been closing Highway 12 between 10th Avenue and Seventh Avenue, or CSAH 6 during the overnight hours. A detour is in place during the evening hours as workers excavate and replace pipes beneath the road.

Beginning Monday, May 5th to mid-July, Highway 12 will stay open with one lane in each direction from west of 13th Avenue to east of Sixth Avenue. Drivers should expect narrow lanes, lane shifts, gravel surfaces and flaggers directing traffic. Shoulders and turn lanes will close temporarily. Crews will work mostly between 7 AM and 7 PM. Work will begin in Waverly in mid-May, and in Montrose in mid-July. Crews will return to all three cities in the fall to apply the final road surface and permanent markings.
