Major re-construction work on U-S Highway 12 in Howard Lake continues after the break for the 4th of July holiday.
Crews are working on a total re-surface of Highway 12 with a new asphalt road surface from west of 13th Avenue to east of 6th Avenue. The project also includes re-construction or repair of concrete curbs, gutters and entrances.
Improvements and updates to pedestrian access areas is also being done with re-construction of segments of sidewalks and ramp approaches. The sidewalk in a two block area in the downtown district in Howard Lake is being updated and widened. Updates are also planned for pedestiran crosswalk signal systems.

The work zone remains open with one lane in each direction through Howard Lake. Drivers should expect narrow lanes, lane shifts, gravel surfaces and flaggers directing traffic through late July.
Howard Lake is open during the road work. Access to businesses and residents will be maintained, however, expect use of alternate entrances or side streets, including sidewalk detours.
Meanwhile in Waverly, work on Highway 12 is underway from west of Summerfield Drive to 1st Street South.
Highway 12 in Waverly is also scheduled for complete re-surfacing. Concrete curbs, gutters and side entries will also be re-constructed or repaired. Improvements and updates to pedestrian access areas will also be completed.
Motorists should expect one lane in each direction to be open to travel in Waverly, though lanes will be narrow, and shoulders and turn lanes may be closed at times. Drivers should also be watchful for flaggers.
Work on Highway 12 is also scheduled to get underway in the City of Montrose late this month with similar work and upgrades.
