We’re about a month away from the start of a major road construction project that will take place in Wright County this summer.

Officials with MnDOT briefed members of the Monticello Chamber of Commerce on the Highway 25 re-construction project at a recent meeting.

Eric Rustad of MnDOT reminded those on hand of the work that will re-construct the road surface between Catlin Street in Buffalo to south of Kjellberg Court in Monticello.

Several roundabouts will be constructed, along with repair or replacement of underground infrastructure, new turn lanes, and a new U-turn and extended shoulder near Kjellberg Court.

The initial work on the 12.1 million dollar project is slated to get underway beginning in mid-April weather permitting.

Other speakers addressing transportation concerns at the meeting were from the Central Mississippi River Partnership (CMRP), along with Wright County Commissioner Darek Vetsch.

The organization continues to look at a new Mississippi River crossing, and have narrowed the search to three potential routes. Officials believe work on the new crossing could begin in 2030 or 2031.
