Highway 55 to Close at Wright-Stearns County Line Beginning Monday

Minnesota Highway 55 will be closed beginning Monday, June 2nd, and a detour will be in place between Kimball and South Haven.

The two month closure will allow crews to update the Clearwater River bridge in Stearns and Wright Counties.

The $860,000 project will resurface the concrete bridge deck, replace the approach panels and joints, and upgrade bridge railings and steel barrier approaches.

MnDOT says drivers should expect a closure of Highway 55 at the Clearwater River bridge. The planned detour will use Stearns County Road 44 in Kimball, Stearns County Road 7 in Fairhaven to Wright County Road 2 in South Haven. There will also be a temporary all-way stop at County Road 44 and County Road 7 in Fairhaven. Officials say Highway 55 will remain open to local traffic east and west of the bridge closure.

Motorists should watch for workers and equipment in the area. When the bridge re-opens in early August, it will provide a smoother surface, reduced upkeep costs and improved safety.
