Lane Shift on I-94 Coming Thursday/Friday Overnight

A major traffic shift on I-94 will go into effect tonight (Thursday) into Friday morning.

MnDOT will be shifting westbound traffic to the eastbound lanes overnight tonight (Thursday) into early Friday morning, but Friday commuter traffic should not be affected. Drivers can expect delays while the concrete barriers to shift the traffic are being placed.

MnDOT says the lane shift is a part of the final portion of the I-94 gap project between Albertville and Monticello.

All traffic will be in the eastbound lanes – two lanes in both directions – until this fall, when all lanes will return to their original configuration. In spring 2026, eastbound lanes will be expanded and traffic in both directions will shift to the westbound lanes.
