Preliminary autopsy results have concluded that a 6-month-old child who died at a Big Lake home in recent days died as a result of bacterial meningitis.

The Big Lake Police Department, along with numerous other agencies have been investigating the recent death since July 18th when officers were dispatched to the 5500 Block of Aberdeen Way in the City of Big Lake regarding a medical call that involved a six-month-old child who was reported to be unresponsive and not breathing.

Officers with the Big Lake Fire Department and CentraCare Ambulance Services attempted life-saving measures, but those attempts were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sherburne County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a press release Monday that the home the baby was found in was called “unlivable” by investigating health officials. Black mold was reportedly found in several areas of the home which was also said to be “extremely dirty and cluttered.”

The Big Lake Police Department, along with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Sherburne County Health and Human Services Department and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing the investigation. So far, no arrests have been made in the incident.
