The Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation held its annual convention and meetings over the past weekend the the Twin Cities.
The Farm Bureau hosts its annual meeting every November, bringing together members and industry experts to discuss the top issues facing agriculture. Voting delegates from each Minnesota county also come together to vote on policy for the upcoming year.
Wright County area farmer Dan Glessing of Waverly is the Minnesota Farm Bureau President.
He says the annual meetings feature multiple generations of farmers…
“That’s something that we strive for is to make sure that we have all, you know, when you’re a general farm organization, you have all kinds types of agriculture, but we also want to make sure that we’re bringing in that next generation of leaders. The one thing we can’t stop is time, and everyone gets older, but we need to make sure that we’re supplying those young leaders with tools they need to become great leaders within our organization and in their communities”
Glessing is also a member of the American Farm Bureau board. He says that group is keeping a close eye on a number of topics, including trade…
“The trade front continues to be interesting. Obviously we’re hearing a lot of trade deals, and our message has been, let’s see pen to paper, let’s see product moving. We just came off a pretty adequate harvest. There were some good yields, there were some disappointing yield but overall, we need to go somewhere with those products. So let’s keep the good news coming on the trade front.”
