State officials say Minnesota’s cooling labor market may be reflecting the impact of federal policies as national decisions begin to influence local economic conditions.

“Over the course of months, we’ve been talking about a number of actions at the federal level that we have feared could eventually filter their way into the data and into a broader economic slowdown and it seems plausible that that may be the early signs of what we’re having here.”
Despite employers shedding some 44-hundred jobs in July, the state’s unemployment rate actually dipped slightly in July to 3.5%. The county-by-county unemployment rate for July should be out in the next week to 10 days.
