With the tax filing season in full swing, the Minnesota Department of Revenue is reminding Minnesotans to be aware of scammers who use tax time as an opportunity for identity theft, nabbing tax refunds, and gaining other personal information from Minnesota residents and taxpayers.
Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart says as millions of Minnesotans file their taxes, it’s a prime opening for scammers and identity thieves to strike.
Officials say the most common areas of concern include suspicious emails and text messages, as well as direct phone calls.
More information on tax refund fraud and information about the signs of identity theft and what to do if you’re a victim are available on the Department of Revenue website.
