The Minnesota State Patrol recently held its annual Awards Ceremony, and two people from our region were honored.
Christopher Kirk was given a Meritorious Citizenship Award for his quick actions January 15th of 2024. Kirk raced to the rescue after he saw a box truck crash through a guardrail in Rogers, plunging to the frozen Crow River below. Christopher rushed down the embankment to find the box truck’s cab destroyed. Inside, the driver’s feet were stuck in the seat belt and his upper body was submerged in the freezing water. Mr. Kirk jumped into the icy river to free the driver and help him to safety. The State Patrol said in their presentation that thanks to Christopher’s quick action, the driver sustained only minor injuries.
A Minnesota State Patrol Commendation Award was given to Radio Control Supervisor Sheldon Carlsted of Howard Lake. The patrol says RCS Carlsted played a vital role in the success of the 2024 street racing details that were held Friday and Saturday evenings in 2024. Officials said Carlsted consistently delivered exceptional dispatching services, providing seamless support to the assigned teams. The State Patrol said RCS Carlsted’s positive radio presence and his commitment to providing outstanding service ensured a coordinated and unified response to make the streets safer.
