Wintery weather and slippery roads played a part in multiple traffic crashes in our area over the weekend.
The State Patrol reports Saturday morning around 6 AM, an SUV rollover resulted in serious injuries to the driver and a passenger. Authorities say a Chevy Traverse was westbound on I-94 at Milepost 203 in St. Michael when the vehicle went out of control and rolled in the ditch. The driver, 20-year-old Abdirizck Ali of St. Cloud sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Cloud Hospital. The passenger in the SUV, 25-year-old Abidyere Dualle, also of St. Cloud, also had life threatening injuries and was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Authorities say the passenger was not using a seat belt. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Albertville Fire Department, and the Allina and CentraCare Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Two crashes were reported in the Wright County area on Sunday. The first happening just before 6 PM on Highway 25 at I-94 in Monticello. The State Patrol reports that a Honda Pilot SUV was northbound on Highway 25, attempting to turn to go west on I-94 when it collided with a Honda Accord passenger car that was southbound on Highway 25. The only injuries involved were to that driver of the SUV. 60-year-old Bernadette Whiting of Colorado Springs, Colorado had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Buffalo Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda passenger car, 57-year-old Laura Lopez, and a passenger, 27-year-old Christopher Lopez, both from Monticello, were not injured. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Monticello Fire Department, and CentraCare Ambulance assisted State Troopers.
Later Sunday evening, a Wright County man was injured in a single vehicle crash in Rockford Township. The State Patrol reports that just after 7 PM, a Tesla passenger car was westbound on State Highway 55 when it ran off the road near Gabler Avenue Southeast. The driver, 31-year-old Ryan Blomquist of Rockford, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Buffalo Hospital. The State Patrol reported that alcohol was potentially a factor in the crash. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Rockford Fire Department, and Allina Ambulance also responded to the scene.
