New Study Sheds Light on Potential Impact of AI on Minnesota Workers

There are some sobering statistics in a new report that finds that nearly half a million Minnesotans are at high risk of having their jobs impacted by artificial intelligence, or AI…

AI is not an advancement that will be felt in just one industry. It’s going to be felt across the entire economy, and that will include a lot of workers in outstate, Minnesota.”

Aaron Rosenthal, Research Director at North Star Policy Action says nearly 500,000 Minnesota workers, or nearly 17% of the workforce, could eventually be effected…

I think the most important thing lawmakers can do to protect workers is to ensure they have strong collective bargaining rights, meaning that workers will have a voice in AI implementation.”

Also to better mitigate the risks of AI, Rosenthal says we need to invest in training programs to prepare displaced workers for new opportunities, regulate the use of AI in hiring and workplace surveillance, and create long-term infrastructure for assessing AI’s impact and adapting policy accordingly.
