October Weather Warmer and Drier Than Average

Last month was the fifth October in a row with above normal temperatures in Minnesota. Pete Boulay from the State Climatology Office says it got off to a warm start…

We’re going to remember the 90-degree temperatures for the first weekend of October. A lot of places had 80s and 90s, records were broken. International Falls hit 85, 91 at St. Cloud and the Twin Cities.”

Boulay says temperatures averaged five to six-and-a-half degrees warmer than normal statewide last month. November is also expected to be above normal.

Along with milder than average temps, several areas in Minnesota could use more rain this fall…

“And it was a fairly dry October for most except for northwestern Minnesota a few places finished above normal for precipitation there. So about one inch below normal for the entire state for precipitation, too. So, really no real big storms, rather quiet.”

The National Weather Service issued warnings on Monday for high fire risk conditions due to warm and windy weather in recent days across the state, and here in Wright County.
