Governor Tim Walz recently announced $5.5 million in new funding for Minnesota food shelves.
Officials say 50 percent of the funds will go toward food from Minnesota producers and processors, supporting the local agricultural community.
Second Harvest Heartland CEO Allison O’Toole says the funding arrives during a challenging season for many Minnesota families, and will help Second Harvest to deliver more food where it’s needed most.
Executive Director of The Food Group, Sophia Lenarz-Coy said that organization is grateful for the investment to provide quality, often local food to those who need it most in Minnesota communities.
The funding is authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act and is allocated through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
