The official start of winter is well over a week away, yet we’ve seen some very wintery conditions in Minnesota already this December.
Animal health experts remind everyone, if you’re cold, so is your pet. The Animal Humane Society’s Brittany Baumann says dogs should only spend a short time outdoors in single-digit weather…
“Their paws and their ears are especially vulnerable this time of year. And so with the paws it’s the cold and the salt and ice and the snow. And with their ears it’s just the cold in general, frostbite is what we’re worried about.”
She also says just like during very hot weather when you shouldn’t leave your pet in an unoccupied vehicle, bitterly cold temperatures are almost equally dangerous.
