The Department of Public of Safety is reminding Minnesotans that the Real I-D deadline is a little more than 8 weeks away.
Driver Services director Jody-Kay Peterson says everyone will need a Real I-D by May 7th…
“…To be able to enter federal facilities or even to board a domestic flight you will need to be able to have that. So a little bit extra than your regular, standard driver’s license or I-D.”
Peterson says while the enforcement date has been pushed back several times, it appears that this time the deadline will be enforced…
“No more extension. This is the deadline that we have been hearing and we want to promote and communicate this deadline to Minnesotans. So they can be ready if they have to go to the airport or if they have to go to a federal facility.”
Peterson says you can pre-apply on the D-P-S website and learn what documents are required to prove your identity and residency. She says applying for a Real I-D generally requires either a passport or birth certificate proving your identity, two documents showing your Minnesota residency, and your Social Security number.
