The field of Republican candidates for governor continues to grow.
Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth of Cold Spring has announced that she’s running for the state’s top office.
Demuth says she is proud to stand on her political record…
“I want to set a path forward for those who are looking for an example of how you are first qualified to do the job and secondly those things that people may be paying attention that make history. I’m looking forward to being that example.”
Demuth joins a crowded field of Republicans setting their sights on the office of governor, including Dr. Scott Jensen, Kendall Qualls and Representative Kristin Robbins. Should she be elected, Demuth would become the first woman and first person of color to become governor in Minnesota history.
DFL Governor Tim Walz is seeking a third term.
