A Rockford Township home was destroyed by fire on Wednesday.
A call came into the Buffalo Fire Department at 9:47 AM Wednesday for a house fire at 25 8th Street SE in Rockford Township.
Buffalo Fire Chief John Harnois reported that when the fire department arrived on the scene, the two-story walkout home was engulfed in flames from the basement to the roof. Firefighters from Hanover, Rockford, Waverly, St. Michael, Montrose, and Delano all assisted in bringing the fire under control, which reportedly took around 7 hours to do so.
There were no human occupants in the home at the time of the fire; however, three family cats perished in the blaze.
The Buffalo Fire Department returned to the property around 8 PM Wednesday evening to extinguish several hot spots, ensuring the fire would not rekindle.
Chief Harnois believes the home to be a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
