(State Senator Bruce Anderson)
More local lawmakers are offering their thoughts and remembrances of their work with Representative Melissa Hortman and Senator John Hoffman at the State Capitol.
State Senator Bruce Anderson of Buffalo says though they served in different political caucuses, he felt Senator John Hoffman was always genuine and reasonable in the senate chamber…
“Well Senator Hoffman, I saw him everyday at the capitol, especially on the senate floor. He was very easy going, no problems working with him. He would always stop by and give you a little jab and a what’s going on, and had a light-hearted approach to things.”
Anderson says though Hoffman fought hard for his beliefs and causes, he did so in a human way…
“I really got along well with John, I had no qualms whatsoever with his style and his workmanship, and he got along with almost everybody.”
Senator John Hoffman continues to recover at a Twin Cities hospital after being shot multiple times along with his wife, Yvette at their home in Champlain early this past Saturday morning.
Senator Anderson says he had limited working contact with Representative Melissa Hortman, though he respected her work in conference committee…
“She was very warm, very open, willing to hear what our thoughts were. She would get suggestions to her colleagues and they would come back and report to us.”
Friends, colleagues and the general public continue to bring flowers, notes, U-S flags, and other remembrances to a memorial to Representative Hortman outside the State Capitol building. Hortman and her husband, Mark, did not survive when they were also shot at their home early Saturday morning.
