Many residents in our area are assessing damage from strong thunderstorms that also prompted tornado warnings early Sunday evening.
The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for Wright and several adjoining counties from radar-detected rotational winds, but there were no known reports of actual tornadoes touching ground.
Strong winds however, were very common in our region. Winds in the 60 to 70 mile-per-hour range were noted, and some trees, and numerous large branches down were common. In many locations, the full extent of damage may not be known until today, when business and property owners are able to get a better look around during daylight hours.
Power outages were also common. Xcel Energy continues to restore power to customers, with outages extending into metro area counties. Parts of the City of Buffalo were without power for a period of time following the Sunday storm.
Other severe thunderstorm ingredients including extensive lightning, isolated reports of large hail, and in some cases, localized flooding due to heavy rain were noted.
There are no known reports of any injury.
