Snowmobilers Reminded to be Courteous While Riding

Snowmobile enthusiasts are enjoying the most early-season snow that we’ve seen in years.

If you’re hitting the trails this week, or anytime this winter, DNR officials say you need to make sure you aren’t deviating from designated trails…

It can cause damage to growing crops, whether it’s small trees or alfalfa, and land owners get really upset when people are trespassing on their property that they’ll close down the trails they’ll remove or revoke those permissions that they’ve granted to these clubs and sponsors that manage and maintain these snowmobile trails.”

DNR Snowmobile Program Consultant Wade Miller says you should always err on the side of caution while riding in areas that you’re not exactly sure where the trail is.

The DNR says there are more than 22,000 miles of snowmobile trails in Minnesota, most of which are on private property.
