An annual report by U of M Extension shows the state’s ethanol industry is big business.
Brian Werner of the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association says the study highlights the economic benefits of corn-based fuel…
“It just overall showed that the industry statewide provided a contribution of about little over two billion dollars to the state’s gross domestic product. That was based on 1.4 billion gallons of ethanol that was produced in 2024.”
Werner says ethanol generated some 1.2 billion dollars in income for Minnesota residents, and paid 157 million dollars in state and local taxes last year. He says however, that those numbers are down slightly from 2023.
