Some parents of students who were at Annunciation School in Minneapolis during the shooting incident this summer are voicing support for a trio of executive orders signed by Governor Walz Tuesday.
Kristin Nevel says addressing gun violence shouldn’t be a partisan issue…
“But a human one and meaningful progress requires respectful dialogue across differences. If we are going to protect our communities and children from ongoing trauma, everyone must be included in the conversation. Everyone should feel safe engaging in honest dialogue even when conversations are hard.”
Meanwhile, GOP lawmakers have expressed differing opinions on the gun violence issue as MNN’s Brett Palm reports…
“Minnesota Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson says Governor Walz’s executive orders will do nothing to keep people safe. Johnson said in a statement, quote, addressing mental health, intervening before a crisis turns violent, and active safety protocols are real solutions that Republicans support to keep our kids safe.”
This week’s executive orders from the governor will establish a Statewide Safety Council, uncover more data on what gun violence truly costs Minnesota, and aim to improve education on safe gun storage.
