Top MN Officials Testify at U-S Senate Homeland Security Hearing

Top political officials from Minnesota testified in front of a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing on immigration enforcement in Minnesota Thursday.

6th District Congressman Tom Emmer, Republican from Delano, told committee members the violence could have been prevented…

“The unrest we all watched unfold in Minneapolis over recent weeks was unnerving. It was heartbreaking and any loss of life is tragic. But make no mistake. It was all a direct result of radical sanctuary state and city policies in Minnesota.”

Minnesota Department of Corrections Commissioner Paul Schnell disagreed with Representative Emmer’s statement…

“The latest false narrative is that Minnesota is a lawless sanctuary where dangerous criminals are allowed to slip through the cracks. That simply is not true.”

Schnell says when federal immigration agents arrived, they never coordinated their operation with the Department of Corrections.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison had a list of requests for federal lawmakers who are part of the Senate Homeland Security Committee…

“Require ICE to provide a full transparent accounting of everyone stopped, arrested, detained and deported from Minnesota during Operation Metro Surge. Require the FBI to conduct investigations in partnership with Minnesota into the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti and into every other use of excessive force.”

Ellison also requested federal agents should stop wearing masks, and he asked senate lawmakers to resume talks on comprehensive immigration reform.
